MIKE LEONE, PA-C
My therapeutic approach is grounded in affective neuroscience—the understanding that our core emotions are natural responses to our most basic human needs. Feelings like love, grief, fear, anxiety, anger, motivation, and pleasure aren’t problems to get rid of; they’re signals from deep within our brain and body. When these emotions become overwhelming or tangled with painful experiences, they can show up as depression, anxiety, C-PTSD, OCD, or ADHD. Together, we work on reframing your relationship to these emotions so they become workable instead of frightening or confusing.
In our sessions, we focus on slowing down and tuning into your present-moment experience so you can access the full spectrum of your emotions with more clarity and compassion. I use evidence-based tools that help you regulate feelings—not by avoiding or controlling them, but by understanding them, staying with them, and responding more flexibly when they feel intense. When emotions are simply too much to do anything with but feel, I help you hold them with steadiness and care.
When medication is part of treatment, I prescribe through this same lens. Medication can soften painful emotional states just enough to help you engage more fully in therapy, learn new regulation skills, and move toward the life you want with greater flexibility and resilience.
Because of my own experiences as a man who has felt isolated by traditional gender expectations, I work especially well with men navigating shame, anger, loneliness, identity, and relationship challenges. I offer a space where you don’t have to “perform” or fit a mold—just be human.
